Building a YouBrik: Where to Start
We've been exploring this fundamental shift from traditional success metrics to something more authentic: moving away from chasing plot points and instead embodying the character you want to be.
But the practical question remains: how do you actually construct a YouBrik from scratch?
It's simpler than you might think. You start one Brik at a time.
Choose Your Briks
A Brik isn't some abstract concept, it's a tangible value you deeply believe in and want to become known for. This isn't about what society rewards or what looks impressive on your LinkedIn profile. It's about what resonates in your body as true integrity.
Begin with selecting 3-5 core values. These become the foundation Briks of your character.
Need some inspiration? Consider values like:
Gentleness
Courage
Clarity
Playfulness
Honesty
Sovereignty
Don't get paralyzed by perfectionism here. You're not signing a lifetime contract - you're experimenting with who you want to become. The beauty is in the evolution.
Define Your Personal Expression
This is where YouBrik diverges dramatically from most personal development frameworks: your Briks are deeply personalized. You define exactly how they manifest in your life.
Gentleness for you might look like speaking tenderly to yourself after a difficult client call. For me, it might mean catching myself before spiraling when receiving criticism.
For each Brik, write out specifically how it looks when embodied in your daily actions. This translation from abstract to concrete is where the magic happens.
Create Your Alignment Spectrum
Life isn't binary, and neither is your alignment with your values. Give yourself a realistic range.
What does it feel like when you're fully living this Brik (A grade)? What about when it's completely falling apart (F grade)? What are the subtle stages between?
This spectrum isn't a tool for self-flagellation, it's about cultivating honest self-awareness. You can't build what you can't see clearly.
Remember: Revision Is Part of the Process
This isn't corporate branding. It's human becoming.
Your Briks will evolve. Your understanding of them will deepen. What matters is staying curious and committed to showing up as the person you're intentionally building and not the one external validation tries to shape.
Your Turn:
Pick just one Brik today. What fundamental value do you want as the cornerstone of your life's architecture?
